About Little Fern
After 12 years of mixed jobs after uni (some I loved, some I did not), I decided a career change was for me. Being the animal lover that I am, I knew I had to work with them or I’d never be happy in my working life.
And so sprung the idea of training and qualifying as a dog groomer!
I attended my City & Guilds Dog Grooming Level 2 and 3 training in London and was lucky enough to be taught by one of the UK’s Master Groomers. The plan was always to have my own business to give me the flexibility to be with my own pup, Olly, so we moved to Dursley to make my little dream happen.
The name ‘Little Fern’ is an ode to the incredible Bushy Park in London - an absolute wonderland of nature, free roaming deer and ferns - my playground for running and walking Olly for 6 years. Every year, the ferns spring back to life, grow anew, and give off the BEST smell - all of which I think is relevant to dog grooming, hence the name choice!
Olly is my gorgeous rescue dog from Spain and he is without doubt the most important and special thing I’ve ever had in my life. I was lucky enough to meet Olly for the first time when he was 6 months old and visiting the UK - he had the energy to power a rocket, and I fell in love with him instantly.
Another 6 months after that and Olly was needing to be rehomed. I took him in without a second thought and my life literally changed overnight. This hyper, needy, crazy, joyful thing became the best decision I ever made and it was a match made in heaven: he needed a lot of exercise, and I am a keen runner (fun fact: he’s actually run 2 marathons with me).
These days, Olly can be seen bumbling about in the countryside, napping, chasing squirrels, napping, chewing his bone, and napping.
The Grooming Space
My purpose-built grooming pod is located in my own quiet garden, away from busy roads. Fully insulated to be warm in the winter and cool in the summer, the space is designed to be comfortable all year round. I’ve set up the pod to be a welcoming haven for your pup, with a cosy bed, enrichment toys, and relaxing colours and smells to put your doggo at ease during their visit.
I have incorporated the holistic grooming philosophy into the layout of the pod, following the 5 codes of practice as stated in the Animal Welfare Act 2006 to ensure the safety, wellbeing and comfort of all the pups in my care.
As I work on a 1 in 1 out basis, your dog won’t have to worry about noise or stress from other dogs in the salon, and they can enjoy free rein of the space with as many quiet breaks as they need.
